found in farmers field...never seen one like it...

Actually a co-worker brought this to me because she knows I love this stuff, it was found in a farmers field recently but I told her I would get your alls advice and opinions on how old, where it came from, and what exactly it is?!?! I can't figure it out, but we would really like to know...

At first glance it looked like a snake rattler.

Looks like a fossil of a snake or maybe a shellfish of some sort

It's a fossil, it measures from the bottom of my hand to about the middle of my index finger. Its about 6 inches long and 2 inches wide, it has the same pattern on the front and the back, I'm just trying to figure out what it is, or how old?

I would have to agree. Your friends piece is just the center of the trilobite.

Cephalopod. Cephalopods ate trilobites. They were mollusks and very similar to a modern day nautilus. If it is a trilobite I will eat it.
