Large iron "link". Found in Richmond, VA.

Any ideas as to it's use?

Looks like a chain here too. As to its use, chains were used for a large variety of purposes years ago.

Welcome jrlowe! I agree this must have had a rather specific use given its size, and that its not exactly symetrical. Perhaps something to do with horse rigging (of which I know nothing), but I know many here are quite familiar with the subject, so be patient and I'm sure more info will follow.
