Congrats. That's a nice one. that's if you can call a sculpture of a man nailed to a cross "nice". Has a very classic look to it. Gold I take it??

Very nice find! Did you clean it? Looks like silver on brass. Congrats and HH, Mike

nice find!
is that marked gold or silver

Vary nice find! Now you know the man upstairs is looking down on ya!
Good luck

I was looking a it and I think it is silver and bronze...Also above Jesus' head there are the letters I N R I

Im still in shock that I found a real crucifix..

HH guys!

Beautiful crucifix!

Can you post a photo with a coin, so we can see how big it is?

Congratulations.

Ridley

The letters above his head have religious meaning. Can't remember what it means. Some Latin initials for "rest in peace" or something similar is my closest guess. Could be way off.

Praise the Lord.
Neat find. Congrats.

It's a modern Catholic cross given the deceased and is usaually near, or in, the casket during viewing at and is given to the family after the burial. I saw one just like it at a friends wake last night and I have one from a relative. Please treat it with respect.

Still got snow here.

Sir Larry,

I must concur with Daydream it is in fact a crucifix that would accompany a casket with the Catholic religion. I guess some kids got the grandparents memento when someone wasn't lookin.

The letters "INRI" are initials for the Latin title that Pontius Pilate had written over the head of Jesus Christ on the cross (John 19:19). Latin was the official language of the Roman Empire.
The words were "Iesvs Nazarenvs Rex Ivdaeorvm." Latin uses "I" instead of the English "J", and "V" instead of "U" (i.e., Jesus Nazarenus Rex Judaeorum). The English translation is "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews."
The Early Church adopted the first letters of each word of this inscription "INRI" as a symbol. Throughout the centuries INRI has appeared in many paintings of the crucifixion.
By the way, Pilate's title for Christ was actually written in three languages.

And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, "Write not, 'The King of the Jews;' but that he said, 'I am King of the Jews'." Pilate answered, "What I have written I have written."
-John 19:19-22 (KJV)

Neat find, Larry.
