I was at the P's house this afternoon and it was getting late. I started to head home and figured I would swing by an old school down the street and see what I could find. Within less than a minute the first good signal I got was this.

When I popped the plug I saw the reeded edge of the coin and it was big(Same size of the Franklin I found yesterday). Pulled it out and almost fell over when I saw the color. It looked like a gold coin. :o When I saw the $1000 on the face I was even more pumped. Then I turned it over and cleaned it off gently and saw that it was from Mexico. That kind of brought my excitement down a bit but not knowing anything about mexican coins I packed up and headed back to the P's. Got on the internet and started searching around and finely found out that it is actually a Aluminum-Bronze 1,000 Pesos coin and only worth a couple of dollars. :-\

Still a cool find but man, I wish it was a gold.

Thanks for looking and HH!

Pretty cool coin! I've never seen one dug before. Too bad you didn't dig a handful of them,, you could of retired...in Mexico. ;D

Cool find!
I found one similar to that a few years ago and thought about getting a new detector when I cashed it in. Turns out I wouldn't even have enough to buy an 8 pack of AA's. :o

Thanks everyone!

I did a little more research and if its correct, they stopped using this coin and in 1992 exchange places were swapping these out for the new 1 pesos coin which would make it worth .10 US in coin value. Exchange rate values 1,000 pesos as $75.00 US. Cheap trick!

To a collector it may only be worth anywhere between .10 and $2.00 depending on year and condition. I think I'll keep it.

Yep, got a few of them over the years out of the totlots here. La Roca won't even take 'em for a gordita, so I tried Taco Bell. No luck there either.

As in many other examples, this coin's value is in the history of the person.
She was the first femanist poet of the Americas--who lived in Mexico during the 1600s.

Sweet find ..This is the only mexican coin Ive ever found ..It got a little clipped tho!
