Hello digger89. I see you are also from South Florida. Did he tell you what beach he found it on? How long ago? Did he need to clean it much?

Re: found on beach, small clay vase ~6", no marks,

Could have been an urn for someone's ashes. We found a small urn at Tybee Island one night that still had ashes in it. Talk about spooky . Tony

A scattering urn is the most likely answer.

6 inches seems a little small for an urn.

I never saw any native Florida Indian pottery that looked like this.

Very nice vase. I would get it checked out. I think if it had ashes in it, that there would be a cork or something.

Im not sure but I would imagine with a scattering vase you would scatter the ashes and then toss the vase as well. They are supposed to biodegrade.

digger89, welcome to TN but you should check back and answer any questions if you want this solved..
