Found Shaq's Gold Ring

Hello All. I FINALLY FOUND GOLD!! I have been digging now for 10+ years and have found many great items but gold has always eluded me...up until now!

I found this ring at c.1910 school yard site, I don't think it is all that old and I am certain that it did not belong to a student...it's huge, a quarter will almost pass thru it.

Most of the sites I dig are c.1880 to 1930 FL Cracker sites and are not prone to gold and valuable finds, so after 20,000 or so holes, gold is finally mine. I'm stoked and I will give Shaq a call later in the week.

Thanks for tuning in and may the finds be with you.

How many grams is it? That's a monster ring good going

Not THAT big.... Looks to be the same size as mine.

That ring is HUGE!
Congrats on finally finding a gold ring. Wow you waited a long time for that.
Out of curiosity I just checked a giant silver ring I have. The quarter wont quite go through it but almost.
It's size 13 1/4.
The man or woman lol who wore your ring was gigantic!

Great find and big congrats on your first gold! Shaq will be happy that you found his pinky ring!

What is the weight ? and what are the letters/markings inside ? Great find !

Congrats on the big ring find!

Congrats on the "Honking big gold" ring !! :headbang: :headbang:

Hello Argentium. I don't have a scale so I can't weigh it. I measured it and calculated its volume, multiplied by the density of gold and come up with 5.5 grams. (5) of these rings would then weigh about an ounce which seems about right. Whadd'ya think?

Regarding the markings, I can only make out "969 14K" which must indicate purity?? Maybe "969" has something to do with its vintage??

Thanks for the reply and HH. C9

Hello worldtlker. I have found 20 or so silver coins including (2) barber dimes 1902 and 1898, (1) seated dime 1861, several Mercs oldest is 1916 no mint mark, several rosies, (1) Washington Quarter, (1)Walkin half 1945, (2) silver rings, (2) sterling spoons, and one BPOE buckle. I don't think the Cracker folk had much is the way of money or luxuries back in the day.

Thanks for the reply. C9

What I think is that there should be a special recognition for anyone who knows how to calculate weight as you did above. That's way more math than I can do. Anyway congrats on the very big gold ring.

I suspect it will weigh out to more like 6.5 grams, but have it checked for content. 14K equals .585. 969 is close to 23K. However, if it is clearly marked 14K that's probably what it is, the 969 might be a model number, because 23K is .953.

My oh my! That is a big one!!

What a great way to break the gold drought!

Congrats!
HH!
