It is a Canal Lock Wicket. It is like a gate valve to raise or lower the water level inside a lock. It goes on the lock doors . It was about 3 foot deep and my Deus 1 hit it. When i dug it up I had to have help put it on one of my 4 wheelers. I took it and had it sand blasted and then gave it to one of the historical societies I belong to. They then built a small lock type door mounted it inside . Now you can see how it worked . i think it was pretty neat of them. I will go take a picture of it next time there open and post it
