Found This MD'ing Friday. What Is It? (SOLVED)

I was out Friday detecting a plot of land owned by mt step dad. I found this about 3 inches deep. I know the area has been active since the early 1820's. I looks to me like it may be some type of handle. It is made of either bronze or brass and has a heavy feel. Any ideas? Thanks so much.

I just looked up some pictures of Maple Taps when you replied. It does look pretty close to some of the pics online.
