Multiple pics from various angles (more the better)... and size or details / markings info also greatly aids in the process...
Adding an item to the pictures you take such as a coin or other common item like a lighter or can of soda is a very good size comparison for us.

For example... Is your item "hollow" or "solid"... IS your item "heavy" or "light"...
What is your item made from (type of material to your best guess) etc.
Where was the item found ? in the woods... on the beach... etc. etc etc.

Follow?

The more information you provide with your item... the better the odds of an identification will be.
