You seem to enjoy bone. Here is a funny post I did long time ago where the beavers ate the artifacts and some incised bone.Thought you might like to see. I think like jamey said the guy is waving. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,225861.0.html

The piece onthe top was found by my daughter about 15 years ago when she still live at home
Note the feathers on his head and the absensce of a nose
I wonder what this thing could have been used for?
It is broken but I think the majority of it is still there

Looks like it could have been a split rib bone knife handle. Like one of these.

Nice knife handles
the one on the bottom looks more like an arrow shaft wrench
I have a bunch of these and almost all are broken but I will post one now in case any one is interested
This one has marks on it, I wish I knew if they were put there for a reason

The bottom knife had a metal blade Larson, and maybe the with the hole it doubled as a shaft wrench. It is well polished.

I just love all that the incised bone you have from that site.

you've got to love engraved pieces. larson, i am guessing the bottom piece shows a drawn bow and arrow. i know a guy that found an egraved piece showing an animal (deer) and a drawn bow and arrow that reminds me of your piece. it certainly is hard to understand what the native americans were trying to convey with their engraved lines that don't seem to make any sense. i think that it is nice in a way to know that no matter how advanced we become technologically, there will always be some things that we will never know and will be forever left up to our imaginations and interpretations. converse notes in his publication "ohio slate types" that engraved pieces were more often than not done on broken or salvaged pieces. now figure that one out!

Re: found this summer of 2008 cool piece added (ANOTHER inscribed bone piece added)

I scanned this from a photo my partner took
we were walking the surface in slightly muddy soil after a rain
My partner was behind me
I told him "don't walk behind me, you're looking at ground I have already looked at"
All of a sudden I hear "holy shit look at this!"
I turned around and he was cleaning this piece with his rag
He said "I just picked out of your foot print, I thought it was just a busted bone but something told me to pick it up"
This just goes to show how easy something like this could be missed because it was turned upside down

Now compare the hands on this drawing with the hand on the piece that is shown at the beginning of this topic
the fingers are very long

Thanks Mickey
your comment about the bow and arrow really makes sense and is much appreciated
it sure would be nice to find the rest of that piece some day
