its a grinding stone. the square in the center was where a rod went through it. It should be 2 or 3 inches thick. Made of sandstone around here.

Bountyhunter2013, you have definitely found a grinding wheel. If it is in good shape, it is a valuable relic and folks like me use them for garden decorations. Here are a couple of mine, both of which are slightly slanted on the outside rim, because the previous owners sharpened their tools that way, like BosnMate described above. Happy Hunting, Sub
