✅ SOLVED found this yesterday in a harvested corn field

found this interesting piece of history yesterday. I'd bevery happy if someone could help identifying what it is. It has a hinge where I put the arrow. Obviously there is something missing inside the round deal.....Thank's for help!

the round piece measures 2" approx 4 cm in dia.

Judging by the screw mounting hole, the hinge, and its overall architecture, my bet goes for it being part of a door knocker.

I thought about that possibility, too, but couldn't make the tapered screw hole work.

If the item isn't solid. I'm going to go against the grain and say it's a bobbin of some sort. The "screw hole" looks like a guide eye to me. The piece on the opposite side of the hinged hole that we can't see could be crucial to identifying it.

Not seeing any like examples in a quick search.

Oil filler cover for an antique engine? Apothecary weight cup lid. 17th Century. That's a cool find. I've seen the cups and weights posted on this forum. Never a lid that I can remember.

That looks close, but not convinced that is what it is.
