Found today but need help

I found this today while cleaning out a rental we recently moved into. I cannot find any comparable photos of it. Other than being a cannon ball I'm at a loss. The metal threaded cap in it has me stumped as well I can only assume that it was originally open for a charge but has been emptied and plugged? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If you send some dimensions and weight for it someone will be able to help with identity. It looks like a good find to me. I have a four pound cannon ball sitting on my shelf that is a solid shot. Your's could be something similar. Dont put it near the fireplace.
