Had this on todays finds with no idea's from the forum. Like I said in my first post, this was found in a area I have found a U.S. buckle, many bullets, a couple buttons a copper chain bit and other civil war related items. Could this be tack related? It is made of brass and is 1 7/8's X 7/8's. any help or ideas will be appreciated, thanks. Wes

Now that is an interesting piece. I am thinking leather-related due to the buckle like shape in the center, but the screw hole is throwing me. It appears to be counter sunk, and the piece appears to have been made to be attached flat against another thing (which would negate the leather strap idea). Is the hole counter-sunk, or is my brain playing tricks on me?

For certain this is something that needs to be ID'ed.

sorry for taking so long to get back, been bad sick, like I dont want to be again.
Buckles the hole looks to be counter sunk, I cant think what it could of been
used for with the screw hole. first thought was tack or strap piece but like you
said not with the hole. Maybe some one else will chime in. i really thought I
had seen something like this before but maybe not. It also looks to be decorative
with the lines and two ends. I found it about 20 feet from where I found a U.S.
buckle. Thanks for the help. Wes

Just taking a couple ofwild guesses. What about a stove or furnace peephole cover? This would have held the Mica plate in place. Or a small vent grill.

This is a WAG... it it's not furniture hardware, consider a double hammered or side by side trigger guard for a firearm .

The hole appears countersunk on one side so I guess its for a screw. Is the other side broken?
