It certainly is cool! What size is it? I can't see the back very well- does it look like it could have been attached to something? Like it could be a button?

It's about the size of a penny, looks like it,could have been a button. I would love to know time frame of it. 1700's ? Found in Niverville, NY.

If you look at the bottom, there s a bugle in a circle, at the top there is a hat with what looks like crossed swords. Like it could be confederate, but just don't know.

How cool! Are those grey hounds? And is it metal? If not, then possibly gutta percha. BTW, it's not *cough* worth anything, so you can send it to me. ;)

Hey deb,

Nice find. It's a real hunting theme. Crossed sword & riding crop, whippets or greyhounds, and a post horn.

Thanks, also found this the other day in front of an old church. Not sure what it could be used for, I put the quarter there so you could size it.

Very nice 'sporting button!' You last item is a bell. Judging by the size, it looks like a funeral bell, with the clanger missing, which was often on horse tack from a horse drawn hearse, and it makes sense since you found it near a church. Both are neat finds! WELCOME to the forum :) Breezie

Someone got sick of hearing that bell ring and shot a hole in it.

Very cool button but Im afraid its 20th century if the back is steel. It looks rusted and it also looks like the self shank type.

Very cool 20th century hunting/fashion/sporting/blazer button. Waterbury has it listed under fashion/animals as Pattern 80204 Dogs W/Saber & Horn. http://www.waterburybutton.com/cart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=0&idproduct=28969

button dogs w saber % horn.webp
