Sending sand to the middle east does sound ironic. Like selling stink to crap. Lol. I do belive you, and do remember reading something about a certain sand. To stop it, you may be forced to tell where your holy grail is. Talk to city council members, any one that will listen. Well.... Dont talk to the village idiot, but every one else. Really look for powerful people with reputation to uphold. Heck, write letters to state congressmen, senators, clergymen. The clergy has following. Get them on your side and you have numbers. Good luck!!!
Thanks N.C.,
The sand going to the middle east is what I was told, I don't really know for sure or really care either. What I do care about is them leaving our sacred ground alone and it may be time to bring this out to try to stop them. We, that choose to live out in the sticks, cant you just let us be....

Fracking is usually only harmful to the land, groundwater and the living organisms which inhabit the land and drink the ground water.

Otherwise fracking is completely safe and natural.

Again all,
They do not wan't to frac this site, but want to mine the special sand for fracking it holds....

To your original question on frack mining and it involving ancient habitation sites. The site or sites would need to be significant enough to fall under a Federal archeological protection act. If it is in the sticks or boonies you can forget about that. They have covered up hundreds if not thousands of sites here. Much by the government much by big money and progress.
I am afraid if it is oil versus archeological oil will win every time.

Is your site on private property? If so, did the owners sell it? If the company mining it bought the property, then this is America, and they have a right to use their property. Out here in Oregon, there are miles of public owned sand dunes, and the greenies got mining beach sand from the dunes stopped. There are millions of acres of timber, but if someone wants to log it, there are hooty owls, banana slugs, nesting birds or some kind of BS that the greenies are able to stop the logging. There are people that have purchased land years ago with the idea of logging it during their retirement. The greeneis have been able to stop some of those folks on their private property also. The greenies are getting power providing dams removed, because a wild sea run salmon is more special than a hatchery hatched, sea run salmon is, and to tell the difference the hatchery has to clip their fins, otherwise they are identical. Now days our kids have to leave the state to find jobs, the population of Oregon is becoming retired Californians. I could go on and on, but would probably have my post removed. What I'm saying is it seems easier in Oregon to stop something that will so called "damage" the environment, and that includes archaeology sensitive areas, so nose around a bit, there is probably a greenie organization that will help you. Personally, I favor private property and the constitutional right to make a profit from you land.

I have learned from this site that alot of opinions and a lot of views are purely made because of where you live rather than who you are(not saying this is wrong). I am certainly not a tree hugger, but never under any circumstances would I cut down a 200 yr. old mature oak tree simply for profit on my property, yet I have heated my house on nothing but wood I have cut myself for decades. Everyone seems to be down on "greenies", myself included, but when needed, you have a very good point. I will call on them and perhaps unite for a shared belief. You made a very strong point BosMate. I do agree with you 100 percent, just saying that a lot of the differences on this forum could be blamed on reagionality. Thanks again, Those are motivating words...

The issue is not about fracking but, the damage that will be done to historical artifacts and identified/designated/found sacred ground.

In this situation, bringing the matter before Federal, State and local Archaeologist(s) should be of benefit, especially if you can show how this will damage the ancient ruins. I believe that archaeological concerns have to be identified and satisfactorily resolved in the required environmental impact before the area can be mined for sand.

Contact http://www.avaaz.org for a petition to protect the ancient village site and surrounding area which surely contains artifacts of significant historical value . This will bring the matter before thousands of concerned individuals, worldwide, who will sign the petition which will be sent to government officials.

In addition to using Avaaz, which is interantional, you may try contacting 60 minutes to identify your concerns nation wide.

I know when buying property you have to check and make sure that the mining rights come with it or there is not a long term lease on mineral rights. Sometimes that can be held by a second party. I have never purchased land for myself or clients with out having a clear title with all rights and that includes easements, right of ways and mineral rights. Then I go after boundry line agreements. I have leased land and actually had the archeological rights to that land included as well. Meaning the owner could not give the neighbor the right to go in and look for artifacts.

You say that opinions are regional and that is true but am not sure you said who held the title to the land in question?

It is all privatly owned by farmers that the land was homesteaded probably. Again, everyone, it is the sand they want. It is a very special hard, quartz, round, sand. Google Frac Sand Wisconsin and you all will know what I'm talking about.

Whats ludicrous is the barrel of oil equivilent (BOE) historically has been 6 (natural gas) to 1 Oil. Today its 27:1. NG is ridicously cheap and fracking, amoung its many drawbacks, isn't necessary in todays market.

This is providing high paying jobs across South Texas and it is said they will be doing this for the next 2-3 decades. Crappy little towns like Carrizo Springs are experiencing gridlock, shortages and the landowners are getting rich. Friend of mine(Uvalde, Texas teacher) leased his ranch to an oil company. His few cattle still graze and he laughs all the way to the bank. Places are renting for $1500 a month(trailers) instead of the $350 they used to rent for. It can't be stopped here and most people think it's a godsend. Money pouring into San Antonio too because the co. district offices are here. I just wish I owned some land...

Speaking of regionally this is North American artifacts. I think great suggestions have been made but as Bosnmate pointed out a person has the rights to profit from their property wether it is the timber, coal or as in your area fracking sand. If there are significant cultural artifacts or sites there then state archeologist know about it but it being private land it's up to the land owner. Farmers have been plowing ancient sites for 200 years
I would start a new thread pertaining to just "Fracking" in the "General Discussion" area. Appreciate the heads up.
I am locking this one up.
