This thing has made me scratch my head so much I have a bald spot, so I'm hoping you folks can help figure it out...
It appears to be cast brass, and the letters are definitely hand engraved. It reads.. (as best as can be determined) "Ca Paix a Ca Terre" or "La Paix a La Terre". I've attempted to translate, with little luck, but it seems that Paix may be "Peace" and Terre "Earth" or "World".. Also, as the back shows, there may (and I stress MAY) have been a pin attached at one time.
I dug it on farmland in SE VA that is known to have had a colonial era road cut through it, and its got that deep, rich patina of an older piece, but could have come over from Europe after WWI or WWII..?? OUCH! There goes a few more hairs.. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
