Detector(s) used
Minelab E-Trac
Primary Interest:
Prospecting
I am a college student at Fresno State and will be graduating soon. I currently have a Minelab E-Trac and try to get out whenever I can but gold fever has me wanting to try prospecting a bit more too. Was wondering if anyone knew any interesting places to check out for either metal detecting or prospecting that would be worth checking out. I'm not expecting you to tell me where your secret place is haha, just wondering where a good place to go pan for a bit might be. Any good prospecting clubs to join nearby too? I have one friend that has a claim up north that I am trying to plan a trip to but I don't think I can wait haha. Also if you have any equipment suggestions it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to Treasurenet. I'm far more into detecting than prospecting, but I know that most folks who just want to see a little color in their pan will head to the broken bridge in Friant. It's been a year or so since I've last been there, but I think it's still accessible. Take Friant Road to the city of Friant, then turn left onto North Fork Road which is the bridge over the river. Along the west bank on the south side of the bridge you can find a few flakes per pan. I've talked to guys who claim that they can get a gram a day from there, but if that's true they are putting in long, hard days.

Regarding detecting, of course Roeding Park tends to be a go-to spot for coins. It seems like darn near every day there is someone hunting out there though. But if if you work at it you will still find a silver coin or two. It wasn't too long ago I pulled a walker out of there.

If jewelry is what you are seeking, the city's sports park off of Jensen is a good bet with all of the soccer and ball fields.

Good luck!

Welcome! If you find any good spots, let me know.

Welcome California -diggin. I notice you say you have an Etrac. And then you ask about places to prospect . Ie.: gold in its natural form. You know the etrac is not for prospecting, right ? There are specialty machines made to find nuggets (which are rarely ever bigger than a grain of rice, when found in nature). The Etrac is a coin/jewelry/relic machine.

Hi Bear,
I live close to Fresno State. If you ever want to go detecting send me a message.
