Friday Hunt = Some New 1st's !!!

Took Friday off from work to hit up some old spots as well as a new one. Went back to the spot where DAve dug his Hibernia. I was there for a bout 4 hrs and got 2 more buttons as well as my 1st V Nickle (1883 Variety 2) *The 1883 V-Nickel has 2 varieties. Variety 1 does not have CENTS on the reverse. Variety 2 (and the rest of the series) has CENTS on the reverse.

While at a new spot dug a colonial spoon. About 10 mins after I was there a truck pulled up & to my suprise (as well as theirs) it was 2 fellow members from another . forum. Thats a 1st for me to have other MD's show up to a spot I was at. I hunted there for a while & headed to a new spot on my way home.

Dug an old gold plated ring as well as this cool token. Gulian C. Verplanck.

Nice digs! My first V-Nickle was also an 1883, but type 1 variety.

I heard somewhere that the word "cents" was added because crooked people were plating them with gold and passing them off as 5$ gold pieces.

I have read something about holes pierced in coins and one of the popular belief in older days in our region is that they would run a piece of lanyard into hole and wear around the neck to soothe tooth ache.
