That's a big one... You may want to hang on to it if you ever get kicked out of the house!

I HAVE A SHOP IN THE BACKGROUND THATS MY DOG HOUSE. IT BRINGS BACK MEMORIES FOR ME TO BUT I WAS A MEDIC AND WE STAYED IN A GP MEDIUM.

I was a medic also but those are what we used in Alaska usually hooked 2 together one for first aid and second for sleeping.

Frank1960,

Does bring back memories - My station was Fort Richardson - and we had those things - they were SOOOOOOO warm - NOT!

;D ;D

I was there earlier than that - but I don't think much changed - actually, it has been built up a little in the last few years, but they "added on" rather than replaced things. (a friend of mine's son was stationed up in Alaska a couple of years ago).

Believe it or not - cold not withstanding - I really liked the area, and the base - it was really more friendly than some others.

I was in the 172nd Lt Inf Brigade - Alaska too, stationed at Ft Wainwright from 81-83. I was an MP and MP Investigator, so my unit (472nd MP Co) wasn't field authorized. We only used GP tents at the range and a couple times on hunting trips.
Never did get used to the cold, but it sure made everywhere else I been seem warmer.....

Wow, we've got alot of Alaskan-served military folks!

You're right, though - even though I'm much older (and right now living in South Dakota), I can dress and romp around and think its not NEARLY as bad as it could be!!!!!!! At least there is no frozen eyebrows - or eyelashes, or fogged up glasses (the kind you get from tucking your head down into your jacket)!

Besides, we had the animals. ;D

Yeah in my opinion Alaska is one of the prettiest places I have ever been. Right now in Colorado and it takes a close second but Alaska will be 1st I think for ever. Would love to get a map of the base now to see how much it has changed. I did a google map of it last night and at least 3 of the buildings I lived in have been removed. I wanted to be stationed at Wainwright because I had some friends there but they stuck me in Infantry at Richardson instead. The first time I got up for PT and saw a Moose walking down the street blew me away lol
