I found these today and have always thought these are grinding stones. I was told they were game stones. Just wondering?? Found in eastern nc. 20190617_204853.webp20190617_204902.webp20190617_204904.webp20190617_204912.webp20190617_204916.webp

1st - I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard kwelliott14! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

2nd - If no one can identify your find - you might consider posting your pictures on WHAT IS IT? for more exposure...

I'd go with hammer stones too. I believe game stones would be more refined and grinding stones (manos) would be worn smooth on at least one face from usage.

i'm thinking kind of small for hammer stones....what was the context of the find?

When I click on the link to add my state it doesn't take me anywhere. Maybe because I'm using tapatalk?

I'm not sure I know what your asking but they were in a field where I've found arrowheads at.

Are they made of Quartz or Quartzite? That is a common material for Hammerstones or Peckstones and that's what they look like to me.

I agree with The GrimReaper they seem hammered into somewhat disk shaped pecking stones.

i agree with the others. I have some very similar hammer stones i use for hard hammer knapping that I picked up because of their shape to use. ( not artifacts).

Also welcome to TNET.
Go to forum actions at the top and select it for the drop down box and then select "edit profile" and you can make changes

Yes I'd say they are quartz. One is almost a perfect sphere doesn't really show in pics.
