Garnet in matrix

My Grandmother got this in the 60's, Juneau Alaska. Paid a kid 5 bucks. The kids would take sledgehammers, pound the matrix/rock and then sell to the tourists.

I have the twins for it I found on a western state rockhound trip.

I have several of these from Wrangell Island Alaska. The matrix is a Mica Schist.
