Hi All,
My first post. I just purchased a Garrett ADS Deepseeker at a garage sale. It came with three round coils and an odd shaped coil that looks like a figure 8. It is approximately 24 X 14 inches and looks like white tubing. It has "Garrett Discriminator" on it. It also came with what is difficult to describe. They are two (2) flat one inch thick approx. 16 x 12 inch black in color, coils? They say "Bloodhound" on them and they attach to a metal tubing that the detector then attaches to. One sits perpendicular with the ground and the other is opposite. I am curious what these two coils are used for. The detector appears to be very sensitive but have not got to use it in the field yet. I gave twenty dollors for the complete setup so whatever these coils are I do not think I got hurt to bad. Any information on this unit and these odd coils would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum (Jim?). You will find many here that can help you..... and specifically with this problem. I own some Garretts and others. The two parts that sit horizontal and vertical to the ground are coils for deep-seeking hunting. You need to check out the internet to find user manuals on that machine. At $20, you seem to have an Awesome deal! TTC

The bloodhound coils are for deep, larger targets. Up to 15 feet deep and won't find anything smaller than a pint sized object.
$20=great deal. Problem with these old machines is the 6 nine volt batteries required. The battereis will only last about 20 hours.
There is a 4 nine volt rechargable battery tray for these machines, but again, fully chaged, they will only last about 12 hours before a 15 hour charge time to recharge.
My first detector is a master hunter 7 which is one of the last metal box type ADS from Garrett.
(I bought it in the 80's from a guy named Hunter Pritchard. Anyone know him? He was a pretty famous TH'r and had a shop in Boulder, Colorado and had his own TH'r magazine and his corp. name was "eight states associates". Would love to hear from anyone that knew him or of him. Man, did he have some stories!) Got a little off topic....
It still works and with a big 12" coil, I have dug super thin, worn mercury dimes at 15 plus inches deep. Using the big coils, a "hip mount" accessory gets the box on your belt and then you can swing. Without the hip mount, good luck for more than an hour. At that depth, no visual target ID so you'll really need to know the machine and the audio. Real heavy detector to swing around! The new machines use so much less energy and are so much lighter.
If you decide to sell, you should do well on ebay with the bigger round coils as long as checked and working.
HH all.
