Hi guys,
I recently purchased the above detector for my 7yo grandson, who just loves going to the beach with his grandad! I bought the old garrett because I wasn't happy with two chinese cheapies I'd got for him. Even though it's a little heavy, if he's keen he'll stick with it, and I can get him something a bit more upmarket later on. It has the original 8" co-planar coil, of which one mounting is cracked, so I was looking for possibly an ok 10" or 12" coil (for the extra depth as well)
The problem....I'm in New Zealand where there are relatively few detectorists, let alone any with spare old Garrett coils!
The solution??? Is there anyone out there (apart from Ebay) that knows of someone that knows somebody that might have one???
Any other ideas of whom I could get in touch with, in order to purchase an appropriate coil?
Any help would be most appreciated!

Cheers,
Rick.

I would contact Garrett to see what they recommend for a coil so you don't make a mistake buying a coil you can't use. Depending on how old your grand son is, those larger coils are heavier. I'd stick with the orginal size. Also replace the brass bolt with a nylon one with matching wingnut.

HIO, don't sell that Garrett ADS 7 short. For serious detecting it can easily hold it's own. For coins it may lose a bit due to frequency and id system. While a bit heavy, it is rugged and can be relied upon to withstand heavy usage in the back country.

As far as the broken mt goes, that has happened to me 3 days mule ride into the back country, however a bit of instant glue easily cured that.
