Garrett security super scanner- leave it home or buy a pro-pointer?

I kind of jumped the gun and bought this NOS Garrett super scanner ($40) thinking to use with detecting. Can you help me on this: (1) proper way to use it? (2) kind of heavy..just get a pro-pointer? ..thanks- Gene

It doesn't go as deep as a propointer, plus the hole you would dig would be big. It would be better to get a Propointer. It WOULD be a great tool to check your friends before you start the hunt

thanks Wayne..good point on checking friends prior to hunt. I'll save up for a propointer and let the grandkid play with the super scanner. I take it you stick pointer down in the hole you made to see if object is out yet..and if no beep then go over your clumps of dirt pulled out correct?
