Gaylord Pat. 1871 whatsit??

I found this peice of brass in my nieghbors field one day, it says "Gaylord Pat. 1871", I like to find old things even if i dont have any clue as to what they are, but its cool to find out so any ideas

Looks like it may have been a suport piece off an old hoe or rake orsomething like that.

hmmmm, a hoe support piece, didnt think of that, was gaylord a tool brand or something cause i couldnt find anything on it.

Kinda looks like my apple corer from pampered chef, that is, without the red, plastic end.

Good find. Brass = meant to last possibly outside. End off a wooden lever/handle farm machinery?
