This stone was caked in dirt...not sure of it's origin. I bought a bag full of goodies and this was in it. I thought at first it might be ruby, but after washing it - it's purple like amethyst. It's heavy for it's size. Looks like a purple colored micah schist - hard, not flakey. Crystals have formed around it and then on it's surface - both sides. I see a couple of small reddish gemmy looking smoother crystals in one area. Do you see the triangle shape on the host? I am a novice and appreciate you taking time to help.

Sapphire? It does have an odd look, but the surface marks tell me its possible.

It looks like a corundum crystal. I would bet my whole rock collection on it.....(JK!) I can see the triangular striation on the top of it, and it looks like it also has the hexigonal shape over all, altho slightly rounded. I'll try and dig up a pic of one I have with the same triangular striation....
