Was out today for a few hours, oldest coin was a 65 quarter. Still no silver since I've started detecting ready to wrap my detector around a pole soon lol

I just started this year too, and I also have not found any silver coins yet. I'm not discouraged, as I have quite a bit of fun hunting. Detecting is about like fishing, sometimes it takes a while to catch that big fish. Good luck!

You got over 40 years of people detecting before you, slurping up the silver.
The way I first, (and still do), prefer to detect when I'm looking just for semi-old silver, is to drive around and seek out
houses that are being re-sodded. Or sometimes even better, curbs that the city are scrapping.
Check to see if your city's parks are putting in new bike paths, out here we had great luck when they did so.
The more surface soil removed, the deeper you can detect, and it always helps when they remove decades of pulltabs.

Yep the detector ads and the forum finds and detector dealers make it look and sound easy.

I get off the beaten path..In my city park this year I've found a 1918 merc dime a 1906 barber dime and a 1803 large cent..when I do hunt the park (not often) I go over the river and though the woods to hit spots that have seen less MD action. Don't find much but when I do get that strong signal I get excited

dont give up.. it will come to you. as they say Location Location Location

I think you should all quit now. Just sell your machines and stop getting out in the fresh air and sunshine. There is nothing left for you to find, right? Just go back to yoga, or Bass fishing, whatever you were doing before. Please. :occasion14:

Well don't give up...People really do find some pretty cool stuff in the dirt. Please call me if you need a pep talk. Maybe I can give you a pointer or two to help out. Toll free 855-966-3563

Now don't get all worked up and take it out on your machine.I don't know what make of detector you have but for the most detectors do just what they are set up to do,detect metals.Sometimes it takes some research and time, but if you take your detector to a place that has older coins in the ground and you have the skill to put your coil over a good target and know how to understand your machine you'll start to see more and more older coins.Something to keep in mind when your out,if your hunting in a area of let say 25' x 25' which doesn't look like a big section to hunt, but if your trying to cover all that area with just a 10" coil, now that little section has became a big section. You must get that coil over a target before it lets you know there is something down there.Anywho that's how it was broke down for me when I first started out and it seemed to help me out.
Good luck and happy hunting...............................

I started MD'ing in July of last year. Thought I would never find a silver coin...but finally in March of this year a nice little 1897 barber dime popped out of the ground for me. It will happen!

If you think your going to buy a detector and the good stuff is just going to be found and your going to make a lot of money MDing your in it for the wrong reason if it was that easy everyone would be doing it , because it is not easy to find the good stuff you have to work for it and it takes time to learn your machine and to find the good spots. There's a lot of people out there that ran out and bought a machine because of some of the shows on TV, Most of those machines will end up on E-Bay later this summer, and I can't wait.....

"Somedays are diamonds, some days are stones..." -just keep that in mind when you aren't finding anything. Most times I find nothing, then next time you get some goodies. Keep at it, it'll happen.

I think silver coins are overrated. I would much rather find something unique, something odd or jewelry rather than coins. Don't get me wrong, I love finding silver coins but there's much more to detecting life.

If you not in the right location you can hunt the rest of your life looking for something that isnt there...stay out of the parks that werent there in the 60's look for something old or you will be digging clad

I spent my first year with an ace250 and found ZERO silver. Once I upgraded to a $1500 detector, I had 55 silver coins that year. Also spend 4 hours a day detecting. It gets stupid how much time I waste out in the park lol. Even with the fancy detector you still have to dig at least 50 junk targets to get a silver. All the easy stuff has been found already. Its the nail/coin combo that is still in the ground and you never know how that will ring up. Finding silver is NOT easy.

I had a cheapo bounty hunter for years, now I got an ace 250. Places I've been hitting r old but I think have been picked over. Found some good spots but r posted thinking bout trying some night time detecting lol ha

I read bout detecting the strips of grass between the side walk and curb my town is full of them. Gonna give them a try till I get harassed by someone

Many factors determine what you will find along the way. You need to have a lot of patience and not set your expectations too high. Whatever detector you have, you need to learn what it is saying, but don't rely on the detector too much. They lie a lot! Sometimes I wonder about all the people who are constantly trying new settings and never being really content with them. Next thing you know they are buying a different detector and starting all over. What you need is a detector that will find the target and let you decided how deep it is and what the object might be. Some people say that places are worked out, but they were sayin that when I started out in 1980. Guess I just didn't know better and found stuff anyway! I think the biggest obstacles to making better finds is that the coins are now a bit deeper and under more junk. Don't let yourself believe that technology will take care of all your problems. You need to research about the place you are hunting and then keep working at it.

I started in August of last year with no silver until last week. I hit the right spot in a park and found a Mercury dime, Indian head penny, 2 Buffalo nickels and 2 V nickels. So at this time I have found more V nickels than silver! So keep your head up.....it makes it all the better when that first silver is found.

Patience and persistence is a must when it comes to metal detecting, the area you're hunt also has a lot to do with it, this morning it was a coin toss for where I was going to hunt, they are two know spots that I've found silver and guess what I found some silver today. Go low and slow ;D
