Detector(s) used
Minelab ctx3030
Minelab excalibur2
Garrett AtPro
Well I've had my new ctx3030 for almost a week, I'm still fiddling around with all the settings, but I sure do love it. It will sure pull targets from the clutter deeper than any detector that I've ever had before. I'm sure that I'm missing targets due to inexperience with it, but I can always go back again.
Anyway, today I went to an area that I probably shouldn't have by myself.....the old part of the Ghetto, where all the old shotgun houses used to be, and some are still there. The city owns most of the abandoned lots, so had no problem with permission. Along with all the junk I dug while trying different settings, I did manage to score a few keepers. It took four or five hours, three different lots and lots of strange looks from the neighbors.

this is gonna be a great detector as soon as I can learn it.

Tip from many W&E articles when detecting in those neighborhoods - never spend much time looking at a find. Get it in the apron and move on. Look at it in detail when you get home.

I found most of my best stuff in an area like yours, just have to watch who is watching you. Awesome! HH!

you're scoring some nice old coins ! great day out .

Every time I read about ghetto detecting, I think of the movie Trespass with Bill Paxton and Ice T. Nice finds! Every buffalo nickle I have dug was worn and rusty.

I tried detecting the ghetto, with buildings marked 1912. All I found was 40 oz caps. And one wheat. Glad it worked better for you.

You are as safe there as anywhere else and just because people are poor doesn't mean they want to hurt you. In 65 years I have found that people are people and the vast majority are good. I taught in an inner city school, have broken down and been helped by "ghetto" residents and never worried. It took me a long time though to reach this point and I fully understand where most of you are coming from. You have some great finds there. Obviously there is probably more. Good luck...

Most people, regardless of where they live, have no idea what metal detectors cost. They likely won't know a CTX from a Radio Shack special. Just keep vigilant, as you should in any setting. Besides, most people will think you're looking for the gas line.

Great finds - when I detect near da hood - I pack the heat - LOL

If you are going to keep working the ghetto's...and people are looking at you....

Then wear a T-shirt with Gun, knife & Needle Search Team stenciled on the front and back...

Went back to the same lot for an hour before work today, found an early token
