Got a chance to get out for two days. Did about 8 hours in the desert and about 8 hours in the parks. Oh boy, it was a blast. Followed the pony express trail to some ghost towns, dug for Geodes, dug for volcanic rock, found a silver ring, and even found a pocket watch.

The ghost town I dug in was a Civilian Camp for FDR's new deal. Only good find was a really cool door hinge.
The geode bed had rose quartz, regular quartz, and one other which I forget.
At the park, I found a child's silver ring! First good jewelry of the year. Has a big butterfly. Also found a nifty pocket watch with an Eiffel Tower. Total clad was about 10$. I even found a 1942 D nickel which I heard was a semi key date...? Don't know about that.

Thanks for looking!

Congrats on a nice hunt.
The 1942d Jefferson nickel is a type 1 nickel.
In the latter part of 1942, nickels were made with a 35% silver content. (Type 2) They are commonly referred to as War Nickels. (1942 - 1945) On a war nickel, a large mint mark would be located above the dome of the Jefferson Memorial. That would also include a P, which represented the Philadelphia mint. During the war, nickel was needed for weapons.

Gotta love those silvers. I enjoy the Jefferson series. But is the non-silver 1942 D a semi key? PCGS says yes and no.

Congrats on some nice finds, really like the watch

very nice, good eye on the agate looking wanna' be geode!

Is that one the red one? It does have streaks of quartz that don't show well on camera.

That watch is outstanding....congrats on the hunts
