I am going out to Medford OK in the fall to look around an abandoned house for a "time capsule" my mother in law buried when she was 10 (About 60 years ago). She described a mason jar with screw on lid for it and I think I have seen these before. Is that lid made of tin ??? Would it last 60 years? What setting would be best?

She is making a map of the yard around the house for me and she remembers where she buried it. So I think we'll be in the general area from the get go. We are not sure of the condition of the "yard" as no one lives in the house. I've heard lots of weeds and snakes.

I just started MD'ing and have a DXL, any suggestions would be much appreciated! Anyone out that way interested in meeting up with me , I would appreciate that also. We've got "permission" and plan on sometime in October. My ultimate goal would be to find this thing but would be pleased to find some "loose change" and goodies also.

Thanks

Some of the old canning jar lids were made of fairly thick zinc. I expect that there is a decent chance enough of it would have survived so as to be detectable, depending on soil conditions (wet, dry, pH nuetral or acidic/alkaline, etc.). A lot will depend on how deep it was buried, too.

Best of luck !
