Quick hunt after work to just to enjoy the weather. Not a great find; but it sure surprised me. Most of the county is off limits, but the beach is ok to detect. It is located at the base of a fort that is across the river from Yorktown.
According to the counties website, the fort at Tyndall point was originally built in 1667 to protect the York river during the war with Holland. It was named Fort James in 1671. It saw battle during both the Revolutionary War and the War of Northern Aggression. I have found minie balls at a private beach at Gloucester point but never caps. I figured caps would have disintegrated by now.
