Today I took the day off for a little R&R and to do some much needed work on my vehicles and such, but I had some time left before the Rugrats get home from school so I started going through bucket of trash from many trips out MDing. Due to frozen ground and running low on tools(ha) I didn't go out detecting. I did find a couple of things that I decided to keep and one piece that I thought was a busted bolt head. Then I noticed that it was hollow on the back where the threaded shaft would attach. I cleaned it a little with my fingers and saw what possibly appeared to be an eagle. so I cleaned it a little more with water and there is clearly an eagle....I don't know if it's a button or what.... but it's small. I have a dime in there for reference. The pictures don't do it justice. you can clearly see the eagle with the naked eye. Any information on the thing would be great.

It pays to go through what you think is trash before tossing it. I usually throw mine in a bucket for later (on rainy or in my case frozen) days. Because I never noticed I had it until much closer inspection.

Enjoy

cool button! Looks like either CW or Indian Wars era (after CW but before 1900).

Congrats!

very nice button! No matter how old it is...That definatly goes in the keeper pile :)

Wow, that sucker looks really old. Love the old buttons. Makes you wonder who would of wore it.

Thanks for sharing.

If you throw that junk away i will take it thanks Mike

Oh I'm not throwing it away. That's exactly why I empty the pouches of stuff I cant immediately identify into a bucket for later inspection..............(learned that lesson from here ;D)

I have no Idea how old it is. I just couldn't believe it was a button (I guess it's a button it's so small) Like I said I thought at first it was a broken bolt head....Glad I looked closer :o

Thanks

Nice find.. judging on the style of the shield it looks to be more CW period then Indian Wars.. good one!!

It's small because it comes from the cuffs or collars of the uniform.

Wow! I wonder if any of my junk I threw away might have been something like that? ??? :icon_scratch: I hope not.
Cool button.

Ed I learned that lesson from this place. If I can't identify it right away I store it of a rainy day. I've actually found a few things upon closer inspection, but this was the best. I thought by the shape and it was actually smooth across the top because of dirt. I never gave it a second thought. I usually carry a finds pouch and an everything else pouch which gets emptied into a 5 gallon bucket at the end of every trip. then at some point I separate the aluminum and other metal for recycling but I look close at everything........Again just a lesson I learned from here.

Thanks for the comments every one
