Going to Try to Combined My Two Favorite Hobbies, Metal Detecting and Fishing

My plan is to go down to the lake, use my small rod to catch a bait fish, then throw out a live bait fish on a float line on a large rod. Then bait the small rod and throw that on the bottom for catfish.

Ill hook up bells to the rods and set the drag weak.

While I'm waiting on some fish action I will be metal detecting the area.

This could create some interesting action, and blooper level hilarity may ensue.

Damn good idea...

Just keep an eye on the rods, as in some states having an "unattended fishing pole"
will get you a ticket from the game warden.

Thanks. Yea there are so many targets in the area I can fish I will be busy on my knees digging just 10 feet away. I have been seeing a bunch of large hits on top of the water while metal detecting, maybe a huge gar or striper. Every time I'm down there detecting I wonder why I don't have rods out.

First time out nothing grand, 2 dimes a couple pennies, a 12v battery terminal, a destroyed zippo lighter, as for fish I caught a 4 inch small mouth bass on my bait line and that was it. Could not use it for bait being its a gamefish so my big rod never went out.

Will try again next weekend.
