Gold Bar It Is, Big It's Not!

I was checking out a school yard in a nearby town on Saturday and managed to turn up a gold bar.

The bar clearly says it weighs 1 gram and when I weigh the whole thing I get 2 grams.

I don't know what carat gold the ropework frame is but it is gold. I have not found any evidence of a soldered loop or any other thing on it that would indicate it had been used for a necklace or bracelet attachment. Kind of puzzling as to how it ended up out in a small wooded area in front of a school.

Cool to find gold ANYTIME... even cooler to find gold that is so obviously marked as such. <smile> As for how it ended up where it was found... Aw don't you just wish every find could tell it's story? Adventure and mystery and intrigue.. and boring and mundane. Probably the piece you found was being carried around by some kid, borrowed from mom's jewelry box, or dad's sock drawer or was their own even, only to lose it out of their pocket while playing in the woods romping around with friends or whatever. We've all lost stuff the same way growing up haven't we? <shrug> still though, let your imagination run wild... sometimes it's more fun than the actual story anyway. <grin>

I don't think it is too unique, but gold is gold!!!! And, I suspect, that if the rope bezel is soldered, it is solid also. Plated would evaporate the gold, and I am pretty sure gold filled would be messed up also, although I have never tired to solder gold filled. Sounds like you should have a bale put back on it and give it to someone important! I wonder if you can look up the number and see who owned it. That is only as good as the people registering, and probably not too many do. Maybe a good time to get you name on the books of a Swiss Bank!!?!

I remember those things back in the day. They were usually sold as an item that hung on necklaces, mall jewelry store type of item. You might find a location on the top/back where a necklace ring once was attached to it. Very likely the real thing. Gold is gold, a choice find during these interesting times.
