Gold? buckle/button, new old site, need ID help

Quick lunch hunt at new research site in W. PA. Farm homesite Appears in 1938 aerial photo, then gone by 1950 aerial photo.


Only 2 coins, 1924 & 1935 wheats helped confirm site, recon'd 1 stone foundation and 2 cellar holes on this first hunt.



Here is the mystery piece i need ID help on. It cleaned up with simple artist brush and water so that leads me to believe it may be gold? Rang up steady in my gold/pulltab slot. First the buckle type piece came out, swung again and found round piece in same hole. They are heavy in the hand for being small delicate pieces. There is a VI engraved on the inside, I can't distinguish any other marks. What do I have here?

Several shotgun shell ends and rusty nails as well as usual.

It looks like gold but you can take it to any jewelry store and have it tested

While cleaning it up there were remnants of decayed fabric type material (maybe) in the back channel of the buckle piece. Could this have been a buckle or button on a hat band?

I think it is a bezel from a wrist watch... could be gold or gold filled.
