Who knows?
A lot of stories out there about people just finding gold on the ground out in the open just on there way to California. They did seem to hit that ridge pretty late in the season, Maybe they stayed and mined for awhile somewhere? Not realizing how Brutal the Sierras were in Winter?
Could still be something out there.

😁

The story sounds odd? Gold Coins from all those different countries? Odd. Bringing gold out west? They must of found Gold on the way out. Those guys were probably foaming at the mouth to get at those hills. They must of come across something.
Wouldn't surprise me if some men burried their gold and then froze in those mountains.
But where? Sometimes there is a little truth to every tail. I always found the whole Donner Party story kind of odd. How could they be that stupid, not to beat ass to get out of those mountains.🤔 Something was up.

Ever been there? Donner Pass is no joke, even today.

The Donner Party got held up, and even though it was late Fall, they wanted to get over the pass. They got near the top, and the wagons and all got buried in 30' to 50' of snow. They even tried traveling by tunneling under the snow. When the food ran out they...well, you know the story. A small group went for help, and although it took quite some time, they did reach help and send a group back for those that survived.

As the "story" is told. I think there was a different reason they were up there. Does anybody know their supposed final destination? San Francisco? Sacramento? Somewhere else? Why was it so important they get over the mountain pass in the late fall? Risking their lives! Personally, I think there is more to the story, that is not being told. Has anybody actually DOCUMENTED and VERIFIED their leaving from wherever and what time they reached the Sierras exactly?

Finding gold and silver would be great.
Donner party stuff though.... Rare for my conscious I might have to think about removing from found site. It didn't seem to do the previous owner(s) much good.
Maybe take a sample to not sell?

This should answer your questions...

Meh, They took a new Route? That means land pretty much no European saw before. Can't help but notice the similarities between "The Donner Party" and the story of "Meeks Cutoff" on that journey Gold was supposedy discovered on the trail but left behind?
I am not convinced. 🤔

Who knows Native attacks might of been involved also with both accounts, with a possible cover up? Not good for business if your having settlers getting slaughtered by natives.

Yeah, there is definitely some gold burried out there, probably from both events.
