Gold near Cherokee, NC!?

Hey everybody. I am new to the site and new to the state of NC as well. Me and my buddy have been to the blue ridge mountains a few times and have noticed many gem/gold mines. We want to head back out that way, specifically near Cherokee, NC and go panning. Does anyone know of any good spots near Cherokee that me and my buddy could go and relax in the beautiful mountains, take our time panning and hopefully find some gold?!

You will have to be careful panning around Cherokee, most of that is Indian Land. They own the gambling casino and everything else down there. You may have to find a private owner and search on their land. But I do believe that may be reservation land or at least it is owned by the Cherokee Indians.

I found a wee bit of color in a "Public - for fee" spot down near Cherokee about 5 years ago.

But!!! At least I found color! None yet in my creeks up here.
