I found this pin in my grand mothers things. I'm not sure what relative it belong to. It is solid gold. I've yet to recognize what organization it stands for, but the hammer on a chain I think means whoever wore this was the chairman.

I would think it's a knights of pythias tie tac

I've looked up the Knights and none of their symbols look like this. The pin is 1 inch by 1/2 inch. And both thew pin and hammer have a standard pin and not the tie tac type. Couldn't this pic to load the first time. My bad.

The P with an X symbol is called a Chi Rho and is used by the Masonic Knights Templar. I didn't see a match online right off but it could be a custom made piece... any makers marks on it?

thank you

Thank you so much. That all fits, as my great grandpap was a mason and passed in 1952. The pack it came in says Heeren Brothers, pittsburgh pa. On the back of the pin is engraved, b.s. , 4-34 , #288. The b.s. Prolly stands for Brother Stinard, his last name. 4-34 prolly the date presented, #288 his member number? I would say Solved.

Unless I misunderstanding something, it has nothing to do with Masons. Its a Rho Chi fraternity pin. http://rhochi.org/ I think its a good ID DCMatt. px.webp Was there a pharmacist in the family?

Rho Chi (ΡΧ) is an international honor society for pharmaceutical sciences. It was founded in May, 1922, to "encourage high scholastic achievement and fellowship among students in pharmacy and to promote the pharmaceutical sciences".

Here is something about the Heeren Brothers http://digital.ipcprintservices.com/article/THE_HEEREN_BROTHERS/853799/83481/article.html

IN ITS HEYDAY, Heeren Brothers & Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, designed and produced thousands of tokens, medals, badges and decorations. The company is no longer in operation, but its legacy lives on in numismatic artifacts. Founded in 1867, the familyowned firm, known for its high-quality work, began modestly, but rose to national prominence.

Well hell. Don't I feel duh! Thanks all for the info. Now it's a family mystery as in who could it belong to. My maternal grandma was a RN. But the initials on the back don't match.

Maybe from grandma's old boyfriend? Do frat boys still "pin" their girls?

I know it was common back-in-the-day...

B. S. are the initials of the mystery person. My parents named me Dale Anthony but my Mom didnt want my initials to be D.A.M. so they changed it.

Very forward thinking of your mom.

Though it might have simplified lecturing you...

D.A.M. boy, what were you thinking?
