Dug this little momentary heart stopper. Came out of the hole as clean as it looks now .. Gold!! (plated). It has some engraving , along with what looks to be a partial compass bearing ? Would love to identify the maker/ possible age. Found near a stone wall/ cellar dating 1700-1859'

The S to F is slow to fast. There would have been a lever which ended on the scale and could be pushed either direction to slightly slow or speed up the watch to make it keep proper time,
