Gold pocket watch back

Dug this gold pocket watch back today. First all gold pocket watch piece I have ever dug.

It is engraved as a 10th year anniversary gift for a husband. It is dated 1877-1887. Too bad that it was hit by a mower at some time.

The other half should be close by. I found a gold (plated) earring a few weeks ago and my next time back I ended up finding the other one in a hole I already dug. It's easy to get excited and lose all strain of thought at the sight of gold (even plated for me) LOL

That find is both great and horrible! It's an awesome gold find and the engraving makes it that much better. Sucks that you only got half but the other half should be there somewhere, maybe in a few smaller pieces. Good luck on finding the rest of it. Heck, the whole watch may be in there.

Excellent find, I cant help but think someone a year ago posted about finding the other half, but who knows..I would certainly grid the area..might find other goodies in the process...Congrats on the gold.

I am still trying to give this piece some provenance. So far it looks to belong to a couple who are both considered pioneers. The wife was born here but the husband made the wagon journey at 11 years old.
