:hello:

Most of you will know that back in 2008 I was lucky enough to find a 13th century Gold Stirrup ring :o I declared the find under the treasure act :-\ http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,177320.0.html

It's taken a while, and a bit of pestering through emails, but I finally have the Gold content of the ring, and analysis of the blue stone. From the British Museum.....

Non-destructive X-ray flouresence analysis of the surface of a Gold finger ring found in Durham, indicated a Gold content of 70-74%, Silver content of 14-16%, the remainder being copper. The blue stone was identified by Raman spectroscopy as corundom. Corundom with a blue coluration is known as Sapphire.

Now it's just the wait for the valuation commitee to sit in Febuary :-\ they have given a provisionall valuation of £2000 :o not bad for an afternoons work ....

PS...the pictures are from the BM, not mine :-[

Amazing how it kept it's shape after all those years being ploughed up!

Any idea what carat that is?

It wouldn't be much :-\ it's a very small stone :) it's been very lucky to survive the plough as you say

I would have thought about 22K :icon_thumleft:

Congrat!!!!
This is a spectecular ring :icon_thumright: It is amazing that the stone is still attached to the ring :hello2: I would have thought that the value will be much more for such a unique ring.
The ring is 17.76ct (which rounds up to 18ct or kt)... 24 x 74%

Thanks for the reply..... I looked it up and you are correct with your valuation of the Gold content

Awesome ring :icon_thumright: Karats don't reduce its intrinsic value. I would have thought it's worth a fortune.

Alas I will never get to hold it again :'( once it's been declared as treasure that's it :'( although I will receive a finders reward. But I will be able to see it :) because the Bowes Museum(not far from me) wants to acquire the ring for it's collection :)

That's good news :icon_thumleft:

beautiful ring. :P

Very sweet ring, is there a comparison in the book that the valuation committee uses?

That's a good question, after doing some research I have found examples, going from between £3500- £14000....for this one :o

You'll no doubt get screwed but you'll always have the pictures, memory, and some cash!
