Gold Susan b Anthony

So I work in a bank and I saw a super shiny gold coin, picked it up and it was a Susan b Anthony. Never in my life have I seen one, is this an error coin?

Wasn't there some company that plated these and then tried to sell them as special collectibles for like $10 or $20. Seems I recall something like this?

I know how to Copper and silver plate, gold plating isnt too hard either. Plating an item with another metal really isnt anything crazy, people will plate coins and all sorts of things. I have a buddy that does alot of copper and silver plated jewelery. Someone was probably just testing out their plating setup, or someone was trying to pull a fast one on someone. If you goggle gold plated susan B anthony dollar, you can buy them for 8.95

Make sure you weigh it. There were some Susan B Anthonys that were stamped on the planchet for the Sacagawea "gold" dollar. Or take it to a error coin specialist.

Gold plating consist of some nasty chemicals!
Alkaline solutions used in the gold plating process usually contain potassium cyanide or sodium cyanide, both deadly poisons, alkaline solutions must be cautiously handled it well ventilated shop area. If a cyanide is accidentally mixed with acid, hydrocyanic acid gas, instantly lethal, is generated.

it's a scam done by less then Honest companies,
who turn around and sell them in TV & magazine adds

Truth is there is maybe .00000001% gold used but they will charge unsuspecting people
30 times their face value ( $30.00 or more plus s&h) insisting they are collectables.

It's cool you found one in the Wild !

but a coin dealer will either refuse it,
Or trade you a Dollar bill for it on the hopes of scamming someone else
and double or tripple their dollar investment

It's an old scam that should be stopped. Here's my 1971 Ike "gold" dollar that I've had for at least 25 years. The gold plating is wearing off, so you can imagine how thin the gold plating is on it.
