Gold Thimble Identification?

Can anyone help me to identify this gold thimble which I inherited recently?

The marks on the rim are very tiny and hard to photograph but I've done my best. The little leather case is marked: Joailler F. Butz so maybe that is a clue.

I'd be grateful for any information.

Wow! Thanks for speedy reply and helpful information and resources, Buckram. It belonged to a friend of mine who was a life long beachcomber and treasure hunter (that's how I came upon this site). I shall have to look through all the other treasures he left me.?
