What is it? It is a "trade token" - used by a merchant more or less in place of cash. This specific type of trade token is called a "Maverick" because it does not have the town and state where it was used. The reverse die appears to me to be that of a Detroit, MI manufacturer and examples of that die are known from Michigan as well as several southwestern states because the maker sold his product all over. It probably dates from around 1910-20. Jim knew who and where he was and his customers knew who and where he was, but that information has been lost to time. It will be a very long shot to be able to come up with a correct full name and location for him now.
