Had a good hunt yesterday. The gold nugget ring is marked 10KP, which I first though was going to be some kind of gold plate. But I later learned the KP means Karat Plumb, where plumb means "exact". Learn something new every day.

I also found my 10th class ring. This one is the most recent class year, and there is no markings inside noting if it is silver, gold or what... Anyone know what a class ring from 1981 would be made of? It does have a Balfour hallmark and I emailed them to ask. The good news is that it has the original owners initials and I am now locating the person to see if I can return it. Check out my signature for all my class rings and returns.

Nice. Congrats.

An 1981 Glass ring should be 10k

Nice finds and great returns on your other rings !!! That nugget ring will pay for batteries for awhile.

I graduated in 1981 and my ring is 10K and looks very similar, even has the same bluish stone. ( Hey wait a second, maybe I better check to see....No, mines still in the jewelry box.)

It worries me that it's not marked, although the hallmark inside if very "rough" and hard to see. I think I see a "B" which makes me think it's a Balfour. I wish it was clearly marked though. I do have a test kit and will test it, but I am not an expert at determining the results of those acid tests.

10k. Nice finds!

Nice finds! Thanks for sharing...

I'm a little worried its not marked too. :icon_scratch: Use the Acid test and if it disappears at all in the 10k acid its not 10k. :thumbsup:However, class rings are "almost" ALWAYS 10k. :headbang:

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

Congrats great ring find!

Nice that you can return it!

See my 7/28 update. My gold test was inaccurate... Original post was "I did the acid test and it did not disappear with 10k acid, but did with the 14k acid. So I am counting it as 10k."

It having no mark was nagging me. I thought maybe it's in the hallmark which is tough to read. But, this morning I got an email back from Balfour who said rings from that time, if not marked, were made of a nickel and silver mix. So I am taking it off of my gold list... oh well. No biggie, now back to trying to get contact info for the original owner.

Sweet finds rings are my favorite things to dig up. Congrats

10 class rings?
Awesome!
I have found 4 10k men's rings so far and an old salesman's sample ring that is marked 14k but is in reality more like 6-8k.
Still cool and I thought I was doing good but compared to you...:notworthy:
