Good gold area?

I'm very new at this and I'm trying to figure out if the sring behind my house is a good spot to look for gold. There were two placer gold mines within a 5 mile radius of this natural spring, but no one has ever loojed here. I am posting some pictures of what I have found. I have not hit bedrock. There is a ton of sand and rocks. Smooth sandstone and shale, but also quartz, garnets, black sand and other stuff. The second pic from the bottom is of magnetic pieces. The rest isn't magnetic. I just need some advice. Thanks in advance for any help.

Can't tell too much from the pics you've posted. There are precious few significant lode mines in your area, which is what I'm assuming the direction you're leaning by posting photos of rocks you've found. I would concentrate on placer gold.

The other thing is the legality of your search area. Is it your land? I would check out Doc's page on Georgia gold here: Georgia Prospecting ? Gold and Gem Gazette Magazine He provides a ton of great info, and will give you a bit more to go on.

You're finding the stuff that goes with gold. The gold should be below, if there. pi times radius squared is 78.54 square miles. Two mines on that many square miles is not good odds. Going straight down may be 80-90-100 feet. Also not good unless bedrock nearby, telling you maybe not that much digging. TTC

Welcome to TNET and also to the wonderful world of prospecting. Altho, most of the gold will be on the bedrock, in Ga., in the Cleveland area where I've prospected, there was a gravel concentration above a clay like formation where there was some pickers, flakes and flower gold and of course black sand. I probably have 25 pounds or more in my garage from when I was in Ga. A fellow prospector there, told me a way to get the gold out of the black sand, but I can't recall now. The grandkids like looking at the "black sand". In your spring run, if there is any placer gold, it could be eroding from the banks into the stream during high water. Check the inside corners of these streams where sand and debris build up. Also look behind any large rocks in the stream as the gold as it washes down, will work it's way around the back side. I've found gold in front of rocks, but most behind. Garnet, as you probably know, is a gemstone. sell em. What do you have in the way of equipment? Sounds like you need a portable sluice for now.

Learn to pan first! As was said earlier, please understand that most gold is small. If you're looking for nuggets in your pan you'll be disappointed.
