Good Hunting Spots Around Athens Ohio?

I am a student at Ohio University and just got into metal detecting. From what I have read and heard Athens County has a lot of history to it, and I didn't see anything in the Athens Code of Ordinance that says that excavating (so long as not on a street, sidewalk, or public walkway) is not permitted. Does anyone know for sure if we are allowed to MD around Athens County or know of any good places to hunt near Athens?
