So I've been cruising the GW outlet almost every day for over a month and have started to find silver fairly regularly (even ~$45 in scrap 14k one day). There were some spoons that I've sold already, then this sterling bud vase about two weeks ago, the pocket watch (800 silver) Monday and the bowl today. The watch is in exceptional condition, it was sitting on top of some clothes in a bin like someone had found it and then put it back and I wasted no time in snatching it up. The bowl is apparently from India and is marked "T.100" on the bottom which means from what I can tell that it's 100%/pure silver. It tests very strongly as silver and does seem a bit soft compared to comparable sterling items. The vase is about 40 grams and the bowl a whopping 175g! 20180103_213703-01.webp20180103_213720-01.webp20180103_213731-01.webp20180103_213743-01.webp20180103_213831-01.webp20180103_214022-01.webp

Thanks! I'm in south-central Texas.

Goodwill here is not so loose with their silver they have online auctions. Some slips but not much ..especially at the outlet stores.

I'm not sure if all GW outlets function like the one in my city; besides clearance items that didn't sell in a regular GW store, there are trucks full of "overflow" donations coming in daily and I would guess that this overflow accounts for at least half of the merchandise they sell, if not more. The overflow is apparently stuff that they don't have the manpower to properly assess, sort & price. This is not to say that precious metals are just laying around all over the place there but if I'm looking through the bins thouroughly it is possible to pull Au, Ag & other less obvious hidden gems. I learned today that I can purchase 5x5x5 totes of "wares" for $20 so I might try that tomorrow.

We have a Value Village here in our area. I love hunting through that store. Although, it makes me wonder how much of the really GOOD stuff disappears before it even hits the shelves. Hmmm...

But every now and then, something lands on the shelves and racks that slipped through the filter, and you get an amazing deal. I bought a really nice big-link silver chain necklace for $3 on the costume jewelry rack. I just liked the look of it. When I got it home, I noticed the Silpada tag on it. Sterling silver. I checked their price for this necklace new: $180.00 CAD. Best thrift store find ever. Ever since then, I think I caught the bug and I sift through the racks a bit more carefully.

Awesome haul....cheers

Same here with the major ARC & GW thrift player's anymore. I do score ok at some of the smaller church run charity shops, but I dread the day the the Big Man opens up the book on my life. I'm sure I'm gonna hear about some of the treasure I scooped up that was priced by a sweet old lady doing volunteer work for a good cause.

How these ended up in the outlet I’ll never know!

A lot depends on the people that work in the store. Some don't have a clue what that they are looking at.

Congratualtions on the nice silver score! :occasion14:

Great to see others doing well at the thrifts. Congrats. Found a nice piece of silver at SA recently for $2.99. Ruby glass mustard pot, looks like a drum. Planning on stopping by there tomorrow, as well as a couple others. Not too many garage sales going on yet.

Still amazed when I see GW finds posted here - I haven't found a damn thing there, I just quit going altogether. Still hit the SA every now and then though with mixed results.
