I have not seen it discussed here, but with a few clicks of the mouse you can take your existing treasure map, historical map, etc and overlay it on google earth for almost pinpoint accuracy of current views. Very useful.

Also check out historicmapworks.com and see if they have historic earth (free) for your town! They do all the work for you

Sorry did not see this until now. I am not a computer expert so I think it may be easier to just link to google's directions.

I followed them to the word and was amazed by my results.
